As we stumble into the expanding universe of big data, we have yet to consider the ethical implications of its use and what we lose when we neglect small data that tell important stories. In the age of predictive analytics in policing, lending, education, marketing, and health care, is analyzing the past enough to predict the future given that 75% of human behavior is irrational? When it comes to data, maybe it's a small world after all.
